Ugh. Same ol', same ol', while claiming it's not. Rachel Maddow, feraninstance? The one screaming about a Republican working at NPR? How is that 'balanced'?
The first 'historian' you referenced claimed that Trump's statements weren't mentioned by the media. That is false as well. I didn't watch the debate, but read all about it, and that was mentioned several times. Who is she reading?
She fails to mention Biden's statements that were false. W
Ergo, she's as biased as every one else, and you lost credibility by that, and your other picks.
I think putting someone’s actual job title in quotes is very disrespectful. To accuse a professional woman of screaming when she is not screaming, is also not a favorite of mine. If there are other historians you would like me to consider reading, maybe … just suggest them. Although it sounds that you would prefer not to be here, and that’s OK also. All the best to you.
Thank you for sharing! Today was difficult…I am always looking for historical context and right now trying to stay supportive and looking for some positive among such negativity.
Letters from an American helped me through the Trump administration. I sure hope it doesn't have to help me through another. I'm with you, listening to the historians as much as anyone right now. I'm grateful for a few more to add to the list. These are feeling like unprecedented times, so it's good to have context. Even with the context, though, it's still feeling increasingly unprecedented, isn't it?
No matter the case, I do like to try to read/listen to folks I don't always agree with. I'm enjoying Lucian Truscott (https://luciantruscott.substack.com/) and Seth Abramson (https://substack.com/@sethabramson) right now, even though both are rallying behind Biden, who I'm firmly convinced should step aside. I don't know. I'm trying to notice when I'm firmly convinced of anything these days, as I'm sure I'm wrong about many things.
Thanks for the recos. I remember Seth from Twitter, who gained popularity after attending all the red-hat rallies in 2015 and reporting on them.
Not that anyone asked, I'm on team Blue No Matter Who, and if it's Biden, I'm grateful we have such an effective leader who makes fantastic court appointments and surrounds himself with a lot of brilliant, patriotic, thoughtful advisors. (Who are not family members!) I'd take one Buttigieg / Haaland / Vilsack over 100 incompetent, corrupt Chao / Devos / Carson / Ross / Mnuchin appointments. I'm hoping voters just have the long-term-enough memory to remember how horrible things were during that time, and the lasting damage it's caused.
Yes, I hope so, too. I'll certainly vote for Biden, or whoever is on the ticket. The debate freaked me out, but if he's the guy, I'll canvas/call/donate like always. Obviously the alternative is a non-starter!
I wholeheartedly add Timothy Snyder to this list. He is a historian I recognized instantly as someone who can speak the truth, whose knowledge is vast and deep, and who can see the big issues of the day, especially as a Ukraine specialist, and communicate the dangers we may face tomorrow from the lessons learned yesterday with clarity and intelligence. His book On Tyranny is excellent.
thanks for the suggestions.
“This is our most desperate hour. Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope.”
Oh, to be a long time ago in a galaxy far, far, away.
I understand completely Marty. Thank you so much for subscribing!
Great article and I do listen to most of them . Hugs and peace
Thank you!
We follow the same folks - good to know!
It is good to know! Although I’m open to more suggestions if you have them.
Thank you. 😊
I am happy to help!

I feel the same way. I hope I was able to contribute even an iota of positivity.

Interesting perspective! It’s important to consider all aspects when making decisions.
