I LOVE this so much. My sister has The Weasley House and this piece captures so well why her house is always chaotic but always the best place to be.

God, but I love your stuff! I grew up as the youngest of eight & cried when each disappeared from the evening “food free-for-all.” This reaches so deep. Thanks

Eric, thank you! Youngest of EIGHT, I can't even imagine. (Though Jon was 5 out of 6 so I can semi-imagine.) Appreciate you being here.

You have a great life. Cherish the clutter while you still have it. I become an empty nester in August… already miss my kids!

I still can't believe I have a kid in college -- the idea of NO kids here is not even a thing I can process yet! Hang in there Kathy.

Luckily both girls will be playing on the same D3 volleyball team and they're in Brooklyn, so I can and will see them, way more than they probably want. lol. But the nights will be quiet and it really hurts seeing their room lights off all day and night. Although it is also a reminder to start focusing back on ourselves...

It’s definitely a big adjustment, but you’ve got this! Sending you strength and support during this transition.

You have such a lovely way of articulating my feelings for me, Liz. My son was home for 10 days between apartments (why do leasing companies do this thing where you have to be out a week before the next lease starts at your new building??) and it was so nice. He could have stayed forever in my opinion.

It's so great even having couple days here and there during college breaks --and there a particular poignancy in knowing your adult kids want to spend that time with you -- I love that you had that. Whether or not it's because he needed a place to crash!

Oh my God, I think I broke out in hives imagining 6 people sharing a single bathroom. 🤣

But also the chaos of kids being home is the best no matter how squished it all is. I didn’t expect this one to hit me quite so hard (after all, my kids are grown, more or less), but as we fill one kid’s room with items to pack for the other kid’s impending (last, permanent) (!!) move… oof.

Next month we’ll all share an AirBandB at a family reunion. The oldest will come with her wife, we’ll head up there with the dogs, and the youngest will either come with us (if still here) or meet us there (if already gone). It’s probably the last time we’ll all be together like that for quite a while.

It’s gonna be loud and chaotic and exhausting. And every one of them looks 12 to me if I squint just a little (or just listen to them bicker and giggle). Long live the Weasley houses of the world, friend. 😘

Mir! 🥹❤️ Now I understand why it’s my mom’s joy to rent an Airbnb for the whole crazy family when we can. Enjoy the loud, enjoy the chaos, enjoy the mess.

Thank you for this lovely hug of Weasley-ness, Liz! We raised 5 boys, all grown and mostly launched into their own wonderful creative lives, and they all live within 30 minutes of us. We see each other every other Sunday for dinner, and most times they are all there, plus one daughter-in-law. Your observations and sentiments are spot on, and it does my heart good to know that there are other Weasley houses out there where families are happy to spend time together.💖

What a lovely mention, Liz, thank you! So glad to find your writing here and reconnect. I feel this one so keenly, especially the sweet moment on the couch where Jon asks, how long will we get to have this?

So much sounds familiar—especially every surface covered in sewing projects. We've been doing our own little shuffles this summer with various camps and trips, and it is amazing for the one kid to find themselves an only child, as well as for us to occasionally feel what it'll be like when it's just me and Emma again. I want it all to last forever, but of course it's wonderful seeing who they're becoming and what they're heading toward. Such a lovely piece. I hope we get to connect with the families before too long. x
