I'm so glad you got your music back! What an epic return, with Peter Gabriel! We're about the same age, and I also listened to Peter Gabriel ad infinitum, and those songs take me places. Sounds like an incredible show.
I feel the things you give up (and regret) in awful relationships, and I feel the joy of loving music with someone else.
I'm thankful every day that my husband and I agree about where most of our discretionary "fun" spending goes - live music. We have tickets to FOUR concerts in October and are both equally giddy.
The Head and the Heart or so great live. I saw them at Massey Hall right before Signs of Light came out. You had to lock your phones, so it was just a room of people sitting and listening to music. Have fun!
Yes!! So good! I've seen them 4 times, and am actually seeing them twice in the next few weeks - in SC and NJ. My daughter flew to Red Rocks for their show this summer. Excellent live show.
I got chills reading this. 1st Wave is the best! Our joke is when any 80's New Wave (especially Kate Bush or Annie Lennox) is playing, Mom is in a bad mood and needs cheering up. My husband doesn't love New Wave and has some questionable taste, but he's mostly supportive of my music. Not as much as I like, but I'll take it. Music is so important, and I'm so very glad you got yours back! Seeing Peter Gabriel would've been epic, especially your location. So very glad for you!!
In the car, our detente default is 80s Top 40 and occasionally 70s Top 40. Outside of that, my wife and I aren't even in the same musical universe. That's okay, though. We'll always have Tommy Tutone and Looking Glass in common.
I gave away my cats. My sister said "don't do it," I said "he can't help it if he's allergic." She said "hmmmm" (spoiler: she was absolutely right. in my defense i gave the cats to a girl who wanted to become a vet, so I think they are ok). Here's to partners who say "yes" even if they themselves aren't necessarily fans (as w/my husband who happily came to The National with me & about 1/2 way through said "you know *all* the words." ). Love this post, love Peter Gabriel, too, while we're at it.
Aw, you found the right guy. (Although my right guy is sadly, deathly allergic to cats. As in, there's not enough Benadryl in the world. I'm glad I picked him instead.)
I saw him several years ago on his Us tour. His concerts are absolutely transcendent. I’m so glad you went and found your music again. I would go see him again in a heartbeat.
Music bringing you *together* to both appreciate and expand your respective tastes should be on every person’s checklist for their relationship. I listen to the Beatles and heavy metal because my s.o. likes them. And it’s good for me to expand a little. Luckily we are in violent agreement that 80s alternative music is the best music :)
Yes yes yes! Jon has such a great range of musical interests and I learn a lot from him. I get to know more about acid jazz and his favorite keyboard players, and he humors me with my trivia about bands on the Valley Girl Soundtrack. 🙃 But the 80s alt, yes! New wave, post-punk, goth rock, new romantic, synth pop, ska...all of it.

It really was. Just incredible.
Girl. I see you.
Thanks April ❤️
1st Wave YES
👩🏻🎤🎸🤘🏼
You brought me to tears. This is awesome!!
Thanks Amye 🩷
He's holding up the boombox I CAN'T
11 minutes? 11 MINUTES?
It was a great moment! (it was inflatable.)
FUCK Liz! U made me cry again! Please keep doing that. o.
Tears happening. I love this post so much.
Aw, thanks Heather.
So many emotions. SO MANY.

So happy you enjoyed your epic night!
Four! Are you going to tell me which ones?
Haha of course! Toad the Wet Sproket, Chevelle, John Mayer, and The Head and the Heart. 🙂
Such a fun range. And TOAD. That takes me back!

See, this is one of those artists I missed in those 10 years of shutting down new music. Adding to list!

Thanks Marjorie! And yes...epic is a good word.
💜 my husband isn’t as much of a music fan, but this was one concert he agreed to go to with me! I’m so happy for you and your re-found loves!
I get it, a concert is a big commitment. This is an excellent one to get to do together.
Fuck. Yes. All of that. 🤗❤️🤞

70s top 40 = totally underrated
Each of our children knew every word to "Brandy (You're A Fine Girl)" by the time they were three. It's a point of pride for us.
Ha, I just played it and my stepdaughter started singing along :)

Im so happy for you.

All. Of. It. I will not be taking questions at this time.
