Thank you. The first item got my attention! ... the Gloria Steinem piece. A few years ago, she was coming to Calgary for the YWCA fundraiser that evening. I got an email about the media availability. I replied to them, admitting I wrote about real estate and oil and gas, but that I wanted to come if I could. I wore my best suit, got there early, and chose my seat carefully to be straight on to the two speaker seats. Shortly after, a similarly aged to me smartly over-dressed woman, also interested in sight-lines, settled in the seat next to me. We swapped cards and handshakes. She was the general manager of a prominent radio station. As the room filled with young and all-female reporters filled the room, I asked why she had not sent one of her reporters. She exclaimed, "Fuck no, it's Gloria Steinem!"... and we laughed. We both enjoyed the location of our seats and the dialogue with Gloria. I enjoyed it more, I think, as the only man in the room. Gloria was dismissive of several questions from young, 'obvious idiotic questions,' and we older ones benefited mightily. After the talk, there was a stampede of sorts to go meet her face to face. My seat neighbour and I had the furthest to sprint, but we were #1 and #2 in line, perhaps better understanding the importance of Gloria than our younger counterparts. The conversation I had with her one-on-one was a thrill, frank and insightful for me, and I recognized it was 'once in a lifetime kind of opportunity' for someone like me, and 'just another handshake' to her. I was completely thrilled, and completely unprepared for the hug she gave me while shaking my hand goodbye. I was tentative ... fearful of breaking her, she was tall, striking and like a frail, skinny, breakable-feeling person I had the privilege to hug. The conversation was as vivid in my memory today as the day it happened. Thanks for the 'trigger' this morning, and thank you for the recording of her interview from long ago, which I've been enjoying so much as I write this note. Cheers, Mark

I know it’s frustrating… They upload it sideways. Watch it on their Instagram feed, and turn your phone horizontally, making sure to use the portrait orientation lock 🔐 in control center on iPhone.

Melanie’s We Do Not Care Club has brought me so much joy on those days that I simply cannot handle the real world. Her delivery is priceless.
