Once again, I’m in! As in: I will try to remember every one of them. Even in August, even when I’m so angry I can’t remember what I ate for dinner last night, even when I see his name in print. Thank you, Liz.
Well, maybe we will be eating that dinner together so we can remind each other and then find ways to be less angry. (or maybe we will just eat our way through the year!)
There really is nothing like a good candle! I have one going as I write this. And amen to no TV news as entertainment. I turned off all the breaking news/news announcement settings on my work and personal laptops too and that's already made a big difference. Such great suggestions!
I have never turned on social media alerts, and I turned off my breaking news notifications over a year ago and you are right, it cuts out so much anxiety. Our bodies and minds were not built to withstand a 24/7 news cycle. Glad you are finding something that works for you!
Oh my God, this is an amazing list. That idea to put a note on your calendar 30 days ahead is smart! I should do that! ALSO: this year, our family gifting went with the theme “Thrifting, Regifting or Homemade.” I came up with it as something fun and young-adult-budget-friendly. It was a major hit, brought out our creativity and was so heartfelt and silly and awesome. Totally low-key, ie “homemade” could be a hand-written note. I’ve also taken to cutting up old clothes and sewing them into little gift pouches. This sounds hard, but it’s not, because I don’t know how to sew. I just cut a rough rectangle, fold it in half, stitch it closed, and thread through some yarn for a tie. People LOVE the little lumpy re-giftable pouches and it makes whatever’s inside even more of a gift.
The calendar note was your own idea! But it was from a 2017 episode that Christine ran again in December so maybe you forgot? We can do it again together!
I also love your homemade idea. I am not crafty and tend not to have the inclination to make things, but maybe that’s why I value them so much from other people. ❤️
This is a list I want to create a poster of and hang in my kitchen to share with everyone in my home which is now just my husband! Thank you for sharing and Here’s to 2025!
Thank you! It’s been a journey for me to be more mindful about the things I do that work (or don’t) so that I can identify them and do them again (or not).
So good Liz. I ditched resolutions because like you if I set them I would not do them. I love your list. I found working the YearCompass booklet (free online) look back and forward, has been better for me.
I loved your list! One of my family’s best Christmas Day’s was one where everything we “gifted”…we found in the house that morning! I gave a library book I accidentally stole (sorry Orange County! I did pay the fine) and received homemade fudge and more. We laughed and laughed at the silly things that made us think of each other-and got more use out of items that had been long forgotten by the owner ❄️💜
Oh my gosh, that’s such a wonderful idea! And look at the memories you made which I’m sure lasted a lot longer than our memories of most gifts. Thank you for sharing that!

These are such good suggestions, and thank you for the generous words about Living Small.
❤️
This was a lovely reminder to do things that make life better.💕 Thank you, Liz!
Thank you Sheila!

Ps. My new year list is less articulate and organized than yours, but has many of the same ideas. You and I are definitely on the same page.

The highest praise, thank you! Here’s to a peaceful 2025 that’s better than we expect and as satisfying as we can make it
Liz, I love that you have identified so many ways to step in with agency and care in your life! You are a gem.
